The Malta Historical Fencing Association is dedicated to the study and practice of European Martial Arts techniques. Our methods are based on the treatises and documents written by the fencing masters from the 13th to the 19th century, and the constant research and interpretations from practitioners worldwide.
Historical Fencing is the art and science of personal defense, both armed and unarmed. It is a science because it depends on a set of systematic principles, methods and techniques, and it is an art because the expression of these principles in a free assault or duel simulation varies according to the individual’s nature, creativity and strategy. It is an activity which makes excellent use of the practitioner’s body and mind simultaneously.
